Vintage Chromcraft Couch, Chair & Ottoman

IMG_7947

We are excited to announce the completion of our Chromcraft set. Bill and John from B&T Upholstery did a fantastic job and we couldn’t be happier. Here are a couple of earlier posts where I wrote about this sets transformation (update 1update 2).

IMG_7946

We were a little nervous about our fabric choice but now that the set is finished we really dig it.

IMG_7940

The accessories look soo good with this set.

IMG_7949

John did a fantastic job keeping the pattern lined up.

IMG_7950

Even the Witco’s look great with it!

IMG_7951

Of course you need more decorative glass.

IMG_7939

I am surprised how comfortable these are. Bill used heavy duty foam to give the cushions more durability.

IMG_7946

This will be a great area to hang out in and watch TV. I love decorating in a different style and era than I am accustom to.

IMG_7941

I really dig the blue/green color combo of the lamps.

IMG_7942

I am almost 6ft tall and I can actually lay down on this couch and fit!

IMG_7943

On to the next post!

Panton Era Tufted Leather Tulip Base Club Chairs

bdsa

Mel and I saw these chairs on eBay a couple of months back and we bought them. They were in Salem Oregon. We shot up there over one weekend and snagged them while we were up there picking up a couch, chair and ottoman set.

IMG_7953

These had some condition issues when we got them. There were some cracks in the base that I had to fill and paint.

IMG_7966

The fabric is in fantastic condition for its age. I assume these were produced sometime in the 70’s.

IMG_7957

I searched all over these pieces and could not find any makers mark. These are made of thick, hard plastic not fiberglass.

IMG_7961

The cushions attach to the plastic shell with buttons.

IMG_7964

I think it looks great next to our space age lamp/shelf and that large Letterman.

IMG_7954

On to the next post!

1972 Seeburg Olympian 160

seebWe have been hard at work decorating and I thought I would share the jukebox we picked up. This is a 1972 Seeburg Olympian that offers 160 song selections.

IMG_7927

Though this isn’t as collectable as earlier model jukeboxes, this is an affordable way to get that jukebox sound. Plus, it has a space age feel that goes great with our decor.

IMG_7935We chose to fill it with 70’s and 80’s music. It is a blast to crank this sucker up and hear it play.

IMG_7929

The lava lamps you see flanking it are not old.  They are the largest ones I have have ever seen. I think they compliment the decor.

IMG_7922

We love the way the concert posters look above the jukebox.

IMG_7921

I really dig the purplish colors!

IMG_7925

I have almost all the records ordered. I look forward to chilling out around this for hours listening to some great music!

Olympian_colors

They released three colors for this jukebox. I might be bias, but I like the purple one the most.

IMG_7923

This jukebox has a unique selector key pad to select your music. This keypad looks like a phone dial pad.

IMG_7924

I just ordered a CD that will allow me to print new label strips for the records we ordered.

IMG_7929

Onto the next post!

70’s Aquatron VX-33 8 Track Stereo Tape Player With AM/FM Multiplex Radio

IMG_7826

I came across this little gem on eBay and knew it would look fantastic with our other space age items. This is the Aquatron VX-33 which is a portable entertainment system from the 70’s and produced out of Japan.

IMG_7815

As you can see it is very clean for how old it is.

IMG_7816

It is all fully functional and sounds great!

IMG_7818

This came with the original box and owners manual.

IMG_7820

The battery compartment is clean with no corrosion.

IMG_7817

If you have one of these and need a manual here is copy of mine, not in the best shape but maybe it can be of use to someone:

Vintage Chromcraft Upholstery Almost Done!!!

IMG_6908

Though the upholstery does not look too bad here, it had numerous wear spots and stains.

We blogged about a really stellar Chromcraft set on our other blog Hepcat Restorations a while back. Our upholsterer Bill from B&T Upholstery sent us a few text photos of how the Chromcraft set is turning out, so I thought we would pass them along…

IMG_7809

Mel and I spent a lot of time looking for what we felt was the right fabric and this is what we found.

IMG_7810

Here you can see John recovering the cushion base for the couch. Both John and Bill are perfectionists.

IMG_7813

John seen here verifying it turned out all right.

IMG_7812

One of the concerns Bill had was that our upholstery fabric did not have enough stretch for the corners of the back rest. He ended up having to sew in inserts to make the bend, but with the busyness of the fabric pattern it blends well.

IMG_7814

Here is the last photo showing the cushions that still need to be recovered. We hope to have the set soon and will post a follow up as soon as we do.

Shepherd Ball-B-Q, Pride of Canada! (Model 300)

Shephard Ball-B-Q

I have seen this style BBQ before, but never in person. We were at the Alameda Antiques Faire and on the way out we saw this BBQ gleaming in the mid day sun. The classic design embodied modernism, and demonstrated how design was delivering new kinds of lifestyles into the Canadian experience. One of the first barbeques with an integrated cover, the Ball-B-Q combines a domed top which rolls over a double stack of racks and a rounded pan joined to a single curved pedestal. The shape of the ball somewhat resembles the castors that are the main product of its manufacturer, Shepard Products. The spun aluminum top emphasizes its use and contrasts with the intense red of the pedestal. A black wood sphere acts as a handle and allows easy and safe opening of the hood. The Ball-B-Q was the recipient of both Design Canada and Association of Professional Industrial Designers Ontario awards.”

IMG_7682

Mel and I shot over to investigate it. We knew it was too cool to leave behind, so we nabbed it!

IMG_7683

This is in overall good condition, but it needs a little cleaning up. It appears to have never been used.

IMG_7685

I am trying to locate the original paperwork for this BBQ. When I purchase something, I like to make sure I make it as complete as posssible.

IMG_7687

This grill has such a thoughtful design. I have to really hand it to the designer.

IMG_7697

IMG_7698

Look at all the variations! So many options!

IMG_7699

Here is the patent paperwork submitted in 1968. Such a cool design!

$_57-1

We found this matching tray on eBay and are anxiously awaiting its arrival. This will make a nice set!

1970’s Original Lee West Alpha Chamber “Egg Chair” made for Krypton Furniture

lee

As many of our fellow dealers/collectors know, cool stuff is getting harder & harder to find. This is largely due to competition and the difficulty to find items in good condition. I was doing what I usually do, cruising Craigslist when I came across something that made me jump out of my seat. It was a Lee West Alpha Chamber chair!

IMG_7639

We got this chair from another dealer we know named Sam. He is a real nice guy and always seems to find great stuff. As with all items we acquire, we like to know the back story on each piece. Sam told me this was purchased and shipped to Hawaii where it was gently used for a short time and placed in storage when brought back to the mainland. It sat in storage for 20 something years!

IMG_7640

This unit is in amazing condition. All the fiberglass is in fantastic condition, and the upholstery is also in great original condition. Of course, this isn’t just a cool chair but also a sound capsule.

IMG_7641

On both sides of the inside of the chair there are speakers under the fabric. When I was purchasing it from Sam we tested it and the sound was surprisingly good. I could just imagine putting on some Doors and staring out at some black light posters with the glow of lava lamps washing over you.

IMG_7653

Under the chair there are connections to power the speakers. There are two fuses to prevent a surge from frying the wires. I have the original wire harness that I have to attach new ends to.

IMG_7651

I remember seeing this chair in the movie Sleepless in Seattle. I remember a scene where Tom Hanks’ son was up in his room with a friend sitting in the chair and chilling out.

100_1766

I know this will just add to the space age feel of the room. I can’t wait to see the Chromcraft set with this chair!

IMG_7650

I guess if your stereo laid an egg this is what it would look like!

IMG_7654

It still has the original makers label under the front lip!

IMG_7648

This is the materials tag still attached.

IMG_7661

Another great thing is this chair has it’s original instructions on how to hook it up.

IMG_7662

They have seen better days but I am happy to have them. Maybe these will help someone figure out how to hook the chair up.

IMG_7665

I can’t wait to get this hooked up and rock out!

Space Age Table Lamp

space age lamp

Mel and I came across this lamp on eBay and thought it would look great with our larger version lamp that I restored sometime ago.

IMG_7606

Believe it or not, the seller on eBay was actually able to ship this large lamp using Greyhound Bus lines.

IMG_7611

This lamp has a cool speckle black and white finish. I had to repaint the base but overall it’s in great shape.

IMG_7605

The ball light throws a really soft, bright light.

IMG_7621

We would like to find the hanging version of this style light.

IMG_7618

This will look great next to our soon to be refinished Chromecraft couch set.

IMG_7614

The switch is at the top of the lamp.

See You In September…

sale

Midway Antique Mall is having a SALE! Hepcat Restorations is offering 15% off excluding items marked firm. The sale runs all of September.

1960’s Tiara Casa Indoor Portable Bar Cart

IMG_7561

Mel and I wanted a bar cart that could be wheeled around when needed and put in the corner when not in use.

$_57

We came across this cart on eBay and knew it would meet our needs! It has a Kartell or Joe Columbo feel to it.

IMG_7563

The cool thing is it came with it’s original box.

IMG_7564

This cart is really clean. Everything was still wrapped and in it’s original packaging.

IMG_7565

I have already ordered a set of Georges Briard glasses and some cool matching decanters. Once the glasses and decanters arrive I plan to blog about the whole set.

IMG_7567

It has two tiers, two ice buckets and can hold 10 bottle of liquor and 12 glasses, this thing is a party on wheels!
